Dear colleagues

Some short term work is on offer in August and early September, to undertake basic object cataloguing at the Museum of Electricity, The Old Power Station, Bargates, Christchurch, BH23 1QE.

I am assisting the museum's owner SSE to review and understand its collection.  Please pass this email onto students, volunteers and other people you know who might be interested in a holiday job.

Two persons are required.  They should have:

  1. A clear understanding of how to catalogue museum objects correctly and past experience of undertaking some museum cataloguing work.
  2. High general computer literacy.
  3. A working knowledge of museum databases such as MODES.
  4. Some interest in the history of electricity.

This could be an idea opportunity for local students or experienced museum volunteers looking for summer work or for an existing museum assistant who simply wants to broaden their CV during the summer break.

Assistant cataloguer 1 will start on Thursday 8th August and complete 12 working days on site, finishing Friday 23 August for a payment of £738.

Assistant cataloguer 2 will start on Thursday 15th August and complete 16 working days on site, finishing Friday 6 Sept for a payment of £985.

Pay will be on a freelance basis by invoice to the project manager.

Both posts involve identical work outputs which are:

1. To swiftly and efficiently catalogue objects with basic information (name, location, number)
2. To assist the photographer and team leader
3. To enter basic object data into MODES

Applicants should send me their CV, if interested, with an indication of whether they want to apply for post 1 or 2 or have no preference.

Closing date  Weds 7th August, but early applications are welcome.
