I agree with Jodie about Nancy's behaviour. Moreover I really think there is "much ado about nothing". You told her. She understood. Now stop spamming my inbox.

Thanks, I'm glad somebody else agrees. The student has messed up, they've been made aware of it. Absolutely no need to contact the supervisor and  "alert them to training needs."

At the very least, this should be a group for PhD/Grad students to support and help each other, not cause trouble for somebody when they've made a mistake. Contacting the supervisor goes against the spirit of this message board.

Hi,

For reference sake, I agree with Jodie – I also don’t think any of us have the authority to contact people’s supervisors – we are not a regulatory body and contacting them would be stepping outside of our remit (not that we have one per se). We have expressed, in strong terms, our concerns with the study as is and pointed Aine in the direction of BPS regulations, that is all we can (and should) do.

If this is an innocent mistake, which now looks like it's been dealt with. Is there really any need to cause further trouble/distress for the student by contacting their supervisor?

Aine has now communicated to me that she didn't realise she needed all this for what is apparently some sort of pilot. She has provided her supervisors emails so I will be contacting them.

I agree.  If you want examples, then you can get excellent ones from the surveys posted on here so it's really not a big job to do.  I also think it's a data protection issue - that you need to tell people how their data will be stored, keep/destroyed.

Sending this to the list as well, because this is a discussion point at the very least.

That simply is not acceptable - you must have a brief and ensure your participants know their ethical rights (right to withdraw, confidentiality etc). You must tell participants that you have ethical approval.
Who is your supervisor(s)? Please send me their email address

There is none, I regard completing the survey as agreeing to participate.
