Natural Sciences Collection Review and Disposal Workshop at the Horniman Museum & Gardens, Forest Hill, London

Thursday 15th August 2013

Dear all,

Attached is the provisional programme and information on how to book a place on this event. The day will primarily focus on providing an opportunity to discuss and learn more about collection review projects and disposal initiatives taking place up and down the country.

Speakers will introduce participants to some different approaches and ideas for conducting collection reviews, including:

·         Issues to consider prior to carrying out reviews (e.g. aims, time, space, cost);

·         The benefits of carrying out a review and working with subject specialist reviewers;

·         The development and use of review methodologies and assessment criteria;

·         The development of holistic approaches to reviews and significance and the involvement of online communities and local community stakeholders; and

·         Legal and ethical issues and opinions surrounding reviews, de-accession & disposal.

Please note: There is no registration fee for this event. A light lunch will be provided at no extra cost to participants.

To book a place, e-mail me, Russell Dornan, off list with your details by Thursday 8th August. Please also inform me of any special dietary requirements so that we can plan for this.

A list of hotels within the South London area is included for those who may wish to stay overnight. Hotels in Camberwell, Peckham & Crystal Palace are within a 30 minute bus/train ride from the museum.

I hope many of you can make it.

Best wishes,

Russell
