The editorial team for /Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (Cartographic)/, or DCRM(C), will be holding a public hearing on the draft document at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago on Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Chicago Hotel, Skyway 260. In preparation, the editors (Todd Fell, Manon Théroux, Nancy Kandoian, Laurence Creider, and Randal Brandt) invite you to review the draft text. Expertise in cartographic materials cataloging is NOT a requirement for readers. The editors are specifically looking for feedback on sections that may be confusing or unclear to those with no (or limited) experience cataloging cartographic materials. They are also looking for any problems with the text, including, but not limited to, typos, incorrect references, errors, etc. There are also still a number of examples that are needed; suggestions to fill in gaps will be greatly appreciated.

The draft text is available for viewing and downloading at http://www.rbms.info/ committees/bibliographic_ standards/dcrm/dcrmc/dcrmc. html

We welcome comments in person at the public hearing, as well as comments in writing. Please send written comments by July 31 to the following email address:

/Background/: DCRM(C), which provides guidance for the treatment of early and rare cartographic materials, is part of the Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (DCRM) suite compiled by the ACRL/RBMS Bibliographic Standards Committee. It is intended to replace the rules for cataloging early cartographic materials currently found in Chapter 3 of /Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules/, Second Edition (AACR2) and /Cartographic Materials: A Manual of Interpretation for AACR2/, Second Edition (CM). It is also anticipated that the PCC RDA BIBCO Standard Record (BSR) will be updated to incorporate guidance on using DCRM(C) to create bibliographic records for early and rare cartographic materials under RDA.
