Dear All,

Many of you may already know that I am finally hanging up my date stamp and retiring.
I have only 3 working days left and will be in on 31st July for my farewell, then handing over to Paula
who will be taking over full-time from 2nd September.

I have worked in the NHS for 22 years and 8 months - but who's counting - and started out as an
Information Officer for the Manchester Community Health Councils in 1990. I have worked my way around this
corner of the NW and have many happy memories of Salford Royal, (the original one) Hope Hospital and Bury ( pre Pennine),
before landing at Bolton in 2001.

Whatever difficulties the NHS has had, the abiding memories I have is of the colleagues I have worked with, both in the workplace
and across the wider network. Working as a one person librarian, as I did at Salford Royal, can be a very isolating experience
but the co-operation and collaboration across the NW from a bunch of friendly and helpful colleagues made the job so
much easier. Well I stayed for 22 more years so something must have been good!

I would also like to pay a little tribute to David. Any of you who go back to the early 90s will remember that many of us were paid on an
A&C 4 and not all libraries had a 'professional' librarian. HCLU had a very big influence here in the NW in raising the profile of the library
profession both in hospitals and the community, and AfC gave a big boost to many people's salaries. Many of you may be a long way from retirement but you will be eternally grateful when your time comes.

So thank you David and staff, and a huge thank you to all my friends and colleagues out there in library land.

Goodbye and thanks for all the memories!

Jean
