Conference: Internationalisation and the Student Experience

 

Wednesday 18th December 2013, Plymouth University

 

The Pedagogic Research Institute and Observatory, Plymouth Business School and the English Language Centre are hosting a one day conference on internationalisation and the student experience in higher education pedagogy. The call for abstracts is now open. We seek high quality contributions from academics, practitioners and students involved with pedagogical research in an international context. Contributions should be informative and interactive. Abstracts should include a background to the area of study, information on the related research and publications, key findings and discussion of the implications for the knowledge or theoretical base. More information on the conference requirements and how to submit your abstract is given below…

 

Abstract type:

 

We invite abstract submissions for any of the following tracks:

 

1.       Paper presentations (15 minutes + 5 minutes for questions): this must consist of previously unpublished, or recently published/in press research. Work in progress will also be accepted as long as there are significant findings upon which to draw conclusions. 

 

2.       Interactive workshops/discussions (up to 1 hour): workshops can be based on current or recently published research, or expert knowledge in the given field. The primary purpose of the workshop must be to stimulate participant learning and discussion on current or forward looking issues. Interactive techniques to achieve this objective is fully recommended. 

 

3.       Poster display: posters will display recently completed or on-going research. We would welcome submission from doctoral research students and undergraduate researchers.

      

Topic of interest:

 

We welcome submissions in the following areas:

 

·        The student experience of internationalisation

·        Creating an international curriculum

·        Transnational education

·        English language teaching and support

·        The business of internationalisation: recruitment, admissions, strategies and partnerships

 

Important Dates:

 

·         Deadline for the submission of abstracts: 30th September 2013

·         Conference registration opens: 5th October 2013

·         Notification of accepted abstracts: 11th October 2013

·         Distribution of conference programme: November 2013

·         Conference day: 18th December 2013

 

Review process:

 

Submitted abstracts will go through a review process based on the following criteria:

 

·         Relevance to the conference theme

·         Contribution to the academic knowledge base

·         Impact on policy, practitioners or the public

Please note: The conference will take place at Plymouth University’s central campus. There will be no charge for attending the conference, although delegates will be required to book and pay for their own travel and accommodation.

 

Presentations, workshops and posters will be delivered using English language.
