Apologies for cross-posting

This is a call for abstract submissions to the Tectonic Controls and Responses and Metamorphic Controls and Responses sessions of the Building Strong Continents Meeting: 2-4th September 2013. This meeting, presented by the Metamorphic Studies Group, a special interest group of the Geological Society, London and the Mineralogical Society, UK, will focus on the latest cutting edge research addressing "the evolution of the continental crust: growth, stabilisation, preservation and recycling".

These sessions will focus on research addressing the "where, when, why and how" of continental crustal formation, from a tectonics and metamorphism perspective. Abstracts can focus on any aspect of the spatial, temporal, metamorphic, lithological and structural controls on continental crust building processes, and/or how the wider Earth system responds to these controls.

The keynote speaker for Tectonics session is Kent Condie, New Mexico, the MinSoc Hallimond Lecturer.

The keynote speaker for the Metamorphism session is Mike Brown, Maryland, the recently announced winner of the Minerlogical Society Collins Medal.

The abstract deadline is tight: next Thursday, 11th July.

Note there will be a Pre-conference workshop on Microanalytical Techniques in Earth Sciences: Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September

This two-day workshop is aimed primarily at postgraduate students and early career researchers who are actively engaged, or wish to be, in using in-situ analytical techniques for geochemical measurements. Focus will be placed on a range of powerful techniques for resolving petrological problems, including microstructural analysis, element concentration and radiogenic and stable isotope ratio geochemistry.

We look forward to receiving your abstracts and seeing you at the meeting!
Best wishes.
