The University of Sydney is Australia’s premier university with an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence. It employs over 7500 permanent staff supporting over 49,000 students.

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney is the most comprehensive grouping of health care professions, researchers and teachers in Australia. The faculty is committed to research and research-led learning and teaching in an interdisciplinary context and our vision is to serve the nation and the international community in contributing to better health for all.

As Professor of Rehabilitation Sciences you will have an exciting opportunity to provide leadership in the Discipline of Physiotherapy, which has teaching and research teams in musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, and neurological physiotherapy.

Applications from candidates with expertise in any of these areas are welcome, as would applications from candidates in cognate fields and disciplines. We are also interested in research leaders with expertise in areas which apply across physiotherapy such as muscle physiology, motor control, or the social aspects of the profession such as health service delivery or patient-practitioner relations.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers in other foci of the faculty including medical imaging; ageing; disability; communication and mental health. There is also strong potential for interdisciplinary research and collaboration across the University and its major health research centres, particularly the new facility for obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease research, the Charles Perkins Centre, of which the Faculty is an integral part.

The appointee must hold a PhD in a cognate discipline aligned with physiotherapy or allied health. An established research profile demonstrated by a strong publication record and research grant acquisition will be essential, as will a successful record of working collaboratively with clinicians, researchers and other academics.

The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.

A salary package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position will be negotiated.
