Dear colleagues

Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) has announced the following invitation to tender. Please could you pass this on to anyone you know who may be interested in undertaking this research study or circulate to any relevant networks.

Invitation to tender – Supporting the development of equality and diversity expertise in academic staff

ECU/T/13/04

ECU invites tenders for a study to research the approaches that institutions are taking to develop the equality and diversity expertise of academic staff, and to assess how effective these approaches are in equipping staff to meet the diverse needs of students within the learning environment and to further their own professional development.

Identifying effective practices and innovation in developing academic competence and confidence in relation to equality and diversity, the project will produce practical guidance and tools that will support higher education institutions in developing academic staff and ensuring inclusive and accessible teaching and learning practice for all students.

The total value of the tender is up to £30,000 including VAT (if applicable).

Details of the tender and how to apply are available on the ECU website at: http://www.ecu.ac.uk/about-us/itt/ecu-t-13-04/itt-supporting-the-development-of-equality-and-diversity-expertise-in-academic-staff.

Closing date for submissions: 12 noon on 9 August 2013 (this date is provisional and may be altered by ECU at its discretion).

ECU

ECU works to further and support equality and diversity for staff and students in higher education across all four nations of the UK, and in colleges in Scotland.

ECU works closely with colleges and universities to seek to ensure that staff and students are not unfairly excluded, marginalised or disadvantaged because of age, disability, gender identity, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity status, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or through any combination of these characteristics or other unfair treatment.

Providing a central source of expertise, research, advice and leadership, we support institutions in building a culture that provides equality of both opportunity and outcome, promotes good relations, values the benefits of diversity and provides a model of equality for the wider UK society
