I really didn't know what it meant and it's in no dictionary
(including Lempriere's classical dictionary 1838 which I thought the
most likely) but I managed to find it. A writing descriptive of a
visual work of art, which is a modern specialised version of the
original which is little more than "descriptive".
Thanks/

Rhetorical ? As in, do writers engaging in it, really know what it
means when an image influences/inspires what they write, i.e. when
they create, compose based on specific images / imagery. Or are you
seeking an actual dictionary definition ?
