We have a growing number of colleges and subject areas where the head of college wants all staff to be able to view, but not edit or participate, in all modules
(our course sites are organised by academic module). We can’t use Guest role for this because in most cases that is a very limited view of the course structure as instructors don’t want to make all their content visible to people who normally have that role
(prospective students for example). What we need is a role “Course Viewer” which allows them to see all the modules in a particular group and view all the content that students are able to see, however with a number of restrictions
-
They must not receive any notifications, calendar entries, announcements or emails from these modules
-
They must be identifiable so that we can list links to the sites separate from modules they teach (as long as it is a different role we can manage
this)
-
They must not be able to participate in student activities
-
They should not appear in Gradecentre
Originally I had thought to copy GUEST or STUDENT role but find that these for some obscure reason are the only two roles you cannot copy and edit!
With any instructor role I can’t seem to give them the ability to access courses without being able to edit at least somethings
Ideally we don’t want them to have an admin role for the same reason
If anyone has successfully managed to do this would they be prepared to share the role that was used and the permission set given
Thanks
