Senior Medical Statistician and Team Leader (107343)

Grade 9: Salary in the range of £43,312 - £50,186 per annum

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Medical Statistician and Team Leader to be based at the Centre for Statistics in Medicine (CSM), within the Botnar Research Centre, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, and reporting to Professor Doug Altman.

The postholder will be central to the strategic aspirations of CSM, and their main responsibilities will be to this end, i.e. developing, leading and managing a team of statisticians within CSM; ensuring high quality statistical input into all aspects of clinical trials and related work within CSM; and leading medical statistics methodological research projects within CSM.They will also be expected to spend a small proportion of their time on methodological research and teaching.

You will possess a good (first or upper second) degree, preferably with a large statistical component, a postgraduate degree in statistics (a substantial part of which relates to medical statistics), and a doctorate or equivalent evidence of the ability to follow through a programme of research such as publications in leading medical or methodological journals (including as first author). You will demonstrate evidence of leadership, management skills, strategic planning, and the ability to resolve staffing issues and prioritise the workload of others (i.e. negotiating & delegation skills). You will likewise have fluency in all aspects of study design and analysis, and awareness of the latest statistical techniques, evidenced by CPD portfolio, as well as substantial experience of working as a collaborator on clinical research projects and demonstrable experience in the preparation of statistical sections of grant-funding and ethics applications.

This is a full time fixed-term appointment for 2 years in the first instance.
