At the heart of this year's Burwalls meeting for teachers of medical statistics is the competition "Why should medical students learn statistics?" Seven competitors have agreed to rise to the challenge with a short (5 slide maximum) presentation, which will be judged by the real thing - a panel of four medical students about to start their medical degree. (There is still room for one more competitor - contact [log in to unmask] ).

Other events designed to inspire your teaching for the coming years include interactive teaching sessions, competitions for best teaching slides, keynote speeches from Dr Jonathan Sterne, co-author of Essential Medical Statistics, and Professor Amanda Burls ("Teaching statistics without numbers"). Other presenters will be sharing their experience and ideas for teaching statistics to medical students in locations from Glasgow to Iran.

If you teach statistics to students of medicine or allied subjects, apply at http://www.phc.ox.ac.uk/events/burwalls-annual-meeting-for-teachers-of-medical-statistics or email [log in to unmask] to register for a unique continuing professional development event.
