Dear Cathryn and others,

After this overview I came to think of the bibliography that Per Galle of the Danish Center for Design Research has compiles and which was at least update until 2012:

http://www.dkds.dk/Forskning/Projekter/CEPHAD/literature/bibliography

CEPHAD stands for the Center for Philosophy and Design.

Hi Cathryn,

The Soul of Design: Harnessing the Power of Plot to Create Extraordinary Products, by Lee Devin and Robert D. Austin (Stanford U Press, 2012) might start you thinking in productive directions. By "plot" the authors mean the principle of arrangement applied to the parts of a made thing. When those parts are coherently arranged, the thing becomes larger than their sum, and achieves a resonance (among users) beyond what you would expect. Apple gadgets, or a special team, for instance.

Cheers,

Lee
