The Centre for Clinical Practice develops guidance on the promotion of good health and the prevention of ill health. Its guidance is for those working in the NHS, local authorities and the wider public, private and voluntary sectors.

The CCP Technical team has two main functions. The first is providing quality assurance from a technical perspective throughout the development of a clinical guideline, including, scoping, development and validation. The second is to provide guidance on the methods of clinical guideline development through the Guidelines Manual, and to foster further development of methods in areas identified as priorities. The team also provides an analytical service to inform judgements about the need to update guidelines.

This post involves reviewing existing guidelines to determine whether they need updating. The process for this encompasses Identifying new evidence from a variety of sources, and working with information specialists to search bibliographic databases, sifting for relevance and appraising the new evidence identified. Then interpreting how the evidence might affect current guideline recommendations. Also to communicate with guidance development groups and clinical specialists to gather intelligence about changes in clinical practice in the topic area, and to ensure that the process and decisions are documented systematically and transparently

You will have:

• Postgraduate qualification or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through experience and further training/development
• An understanding of the principles of evidence-based healthcare, critical appraisal and the interpretation and synthesis of health care research evidence
• An understanding of guideline development, health technology assessment and/or public health research and assessment methodology
• Effective and persuasive communication and presentation skills oral, written and presentation with a high degree of personal credibility and sensitivity
• Ability to gather data, analyse, critique and synthesise complex information and prepare reports and briefing documents
