I went from Education Officer to 'Senior Community Heritage Education Development Officer' in a council shake up. Struggled with a badge long enough to cope with the lettering! I preferred SCHEDO as an easier alternative..

It didn't take long for said Council to ditch that title and return to a more sensible title for the Museum Learning And Access Officer!

I think it is more interesting when those outside the heritage sector ask what exactly is it you do with that job title...

One of my favourites was the Director of First Impressions (seen at a large and well known US zoo) :-)  I’ll leave you to guess the role.

Best wishes,

Bekky

I would call them busy?

Job title inflation is really dumb, have seen some beauties. I thought about re-branding myself from Conservator to Senior Decay Management Specialist. But then I thought, naaah, dumb. At Leeds Museums and Galleries there are Learning and Access Officers. This is too long a job title. Learning Officer should be enough. There is another kind of post, new, called Community Curators. This is, in my view, a misnomer. As far as I can tell none of the postholders have any curatorial background whatsover, and it would not surprise me if what they do in terms of community engagement becomes, in effect, an extension of social services. Community Officer would have been better. Never mind, in the end it is what they actually do that is what defines their service delivery.

Dear All

A quick Friday morning question:  What do you call your Learning Officer/ Outreach Manager / Community Engagement Officer and realistically the person who does all of these roles?

Happy wet Friday (again)!
