Dear friends:

I am reserving accomodation soon and I'd like to know approximate timetable of the symposium, in order to know how many nights I have to stay...  that is, I have to decide date of arrival (Sunday evening? Monday morning?) and departure (Tuesday evening? Wednesday morning?) depending on the programme. Can anyone help me with some info about this? Thanks a lot in advance.

Fairly easy really – the nearest railway station is Ruabon (one change from London at either Chester or Birmingham), the local bus then picks up at the front of the station. On Sundays it’s the 5A http://www.ghacoaches.co.uk/Timetables/05ASU12A.html running hourly – in the week the number 5 bus runs every 15 minutes http://www.ghacoaches.co.uk/Timetables/005MS12A.html .

My preference though is to take my bike and cycle along the canal towpath and enjoy the spectacular views – I arrive for meetings very relaxed this way! You can of course leave the train at Chirk instead, it’s a little further but very pleasant (surface not quite so good for the first section) and you get the benefit of crossing the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct – great views of the Dee valley.

Worth also trying http://www.transportdirect.info/ for directions, but be careful can send you the long way round sometimes!

So how do you actually get to Llangollen by public transport? I hear such stories of rural bus service cuts, and have learned not to trust google directions. An early train from London on Sunday and a late train back on Tuesday should do it? (I'm booking accommodation)

I'm turning into *such* an urban researcher *sigh*

Registration for the 10th CYCLING AND SOCIETY ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM is now open.

This years symposium will be held @ the Ty'n Dwr Outdoor Centre in Llangollen, mid-Wales (http://www.uclan.ac.uk/tyn_dwr/index.php) on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th September.

As with previous years the programme offers a variety of presentations on practical and theoretical aspects of cycling and cycle research. The Cycling and Society Annual Symposium is an informal and interdisciplinary event, welcoming academics, policy makers and advocates with an interest in cycling.

The registration fee for the event is £20. Due to constraints at the venue the number of attendees will be limited, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

For a registration form and further information please contact Richard Weston at [log in to unmask]"> [log in to unmask] .

Details of the area can be found at http://www.clwydianrangeaonb.org.uk/ and http://www.pontcysyllte-aqueduct.co.uk/.

We look forward to welcoming you all in September.

Richard.
