Public Information Rights of Way
An introduction to the Freedom of Information Act 2000, who can help and how it works

ARA Training Group

10:30am, 10 July 2013
Cambridge Assessment, 1 Hills Road, Cambridge, CB1 2EU

The course on Freedom of Information (FOI) has been designed for archivists who would like to understand more about this piece of information legislation. It is also suitable for those working in records and information management without any training in this legislation and those within the recordkeeping profession who are interested in learning more about FOI. The course is not intended for FOI practitioners or those with a daily working knowledge of the FOI Act.

The training will feature Lynsey Aylmer, FOI Request Manager at The National Archives and Sue Markey, Senior Policy Officer at the Information Commissioner’s Office. Their talks will give delegates an appreciation and understanding of existing legislation, its key terms and an awareness of the key bodies involved in overseeing the Act’s implementation.

After lunch, the afternoon session will open with a short quiz to reinforce the morning’s content before moving on to practical experiences from David Jenkins, Corporate Records Manager at Derbyshire County Council and also Lynsey Aylmer to show how FOI is implemented in their workplaces. The day will then be drawn to a close with a panel session where delegates are invited to bring their own FOI case studies to discuss and work through with the expert panel.

A full course programme will be available on the ARA Website (http://www.archives.org.uk).

There are 27 places available for this event. Each place costs £25 for ARA Members and £30 for non ARA Members.
