Why can't we just measure ionised calcium on our main analysers and ditch total calcium methods and their equations?

Yes, what matters is clinical behaviour, not the laboratory report. That's why we should change direction and report "Best estimate of ionised calcium".

Dear Rita
A pertinent question may be if laboratories shall calculate, correctly, what we know is wrong or leave it to the clinicians to wrongly calculate what is wrong
anyway. It is not always that two negatives cancel.
