For anyone in the North West area (free dinner and drinks of all varieties)…

You don’t have to be a Sharks fan, but having a love for rugby would help!

Sale Sharks fans can help researchers by watching match footage

Telecommunications giant BT has asked researchers at the University to help investigate reactions to local TV sports coverage.

The acoustics research team are inviting Sale Sharks fans to attend a special event at MediaCityUK, which will contribute to the study into people’s reactions to local TV content in a sports context.

At a recent rugby match, which saw Sale Sharks pitted against Gloucester, researchers filmed a range of content, including pre-match fan comment, crowd ambience, half-time chatter and full-time excitement, on small, cheap Flip cameras (http://prezi.com/4ox4kozoztcv/sharks-vs-gloucester/?kw=view-4ox4kozoztcv&rc=ref-28950193).

Research Assistant Charlie Mydlarz said: “The next step is to screen the edited footage and invite some Sale Sharks fans to come along and view it.  The aim is to try to understand people’s thoughts on it and whether or not this kind of material would be a desirable addition to the regular coverage available.

“The reason for BT’s interest in this hyperlocal area is its recent purchase of a large amount of sports broadcast rights.  The company is looking for a way to make its BT Vision TV packages more desirable to potential customers.”

The informal premiere is taking place at MediaCityUK on Tuesday 4th June 2013.
