Hi Strephon,

Have you spoken with the folks at the Archaeological Data Service in York? They have lots of facilities in place for picture hosting.

I'm not sure about costs or anything like that, but I could pass you names of people if that would be helpful.

Cheers,
Chris

At the moment we just store photos on a backed up server, in folders, according to which archaeological project or site that they belong to. It’s a linear system that is difficult to search unless you already know where to find what you’re looking for. What we would like is an accessible library of images that can be searched in a much more flexible way using other search terms and criteria, via metadata, keywords and even visually by picture.

What I’d like to do in the first instance is to demonstrate the usefulness of DAMS to our directorship here. We need an affordable system, bearing in mind that commercial archaeology doesn’t reap large profits. Graham has been experimenting with some open sourced DAMS but I wonder if anyone would be willing and able to give us some guidance with this.
