The Library is at the heart of LSE, one of the world's greatest social science universities, and serves a vibrant community of students and staff in the centre of London. It has extensive collections across the social sciences and is particularly strong in government and official publications. An opportunity has arisen to join the Collection Services Group, contributing to the management and creation of metadata for both physical and digital collections.

The Collections Services Group is responsible for the acquisition, cataloguing and preservation of the Library's print and electronic collections, and for supporting the Library's IT framework. Within Collections Services, the Bibliographic Services team is responsible for creating metadata for the institutional repository services LSE Research Online and LSE Theses Online. The team also carries out all the functions associated with the ordering, receipt and cataloguing of monograph material, including traditional printed publications as well as e-books and other electronic resources.

As one of three Senior Library Assistants in the Bibliographic Services team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination of metadata creation for monographs, e-books and other electronic resources, including supervising and training library assistants in the team. You will have particular responsibility for quality control of the library catalogue and overseeing quality control matters in the team. You will also have some line management responsibility for some library assistants in the team and contribute to delivering services at the library service counter and answering basic enquiries on

the library helpdesk.

You will be educated to 'A' level or equivalent with experience of working in a library environment, and of cataloguing or describing resources to prescribed standards. You should be an excellent communicator with a proven ability to relate to a wide range of users and academic colleagues. You will be able to work on your own initiative as well being an effective team member. Regular weekend duties are required, and evening duties (to 7 pm), with time taken off in lieu.
