3-year PhD Scholarship in African Studies at the University of Birmingham (Arabic Sources for West African History, West African Manuscripts in the British Library).
Applications are invited for a three-year African Studies PhD scholarship between the University of Birmingham and the British Library, to start in September 2013. The AHRC-funded scholarship is awarded for research and cataloguing related to the British Library's collection of West African Arabic manuscripts and its forthcoming exhibition: 'West Africa: Cultures of the Word'. This could also include research on relevant digital collections of West African Arabic manuscript material held by the Endangered Archives Programme.
