We switched from laminated labels/labels
stuck on id badges to plastic library cards a couple of years ago. We also
issue a small key fob with the same information on it, like a Tesco clubcard. The
key fob is very popular as most staff attach it to their lanyards. The cards
are also popular as most staff put them on the other side of the holder for
their id badge, so either way they usually have their user details on them. If
they don’t, we look them up as they always have their id badges on them.
We found the old sticky labels faded over
time and became unreadable. We also liked the fact that we have customised our
library cards with our library logo, contact details and details of how to
access our library catalogue.
Kind regards,

Good
morning all,
We
have one box of library cards left and before I order more I have a question.
It has been suggested that instead of cards we just provide users with a
barcode label to affix to their ID cards. This would be cheaper and,
maybe easier as most people usually have their ID card on them and are
more likely to forget their library card. A library card seems to be more
solid, “authoritative” and promotes our brand better. What do other
libraries do and, if you’ve made the switch from cards to labels, was it a good
decision?
Many
thanks,
