Hi Amy

When you talk of combining 'our forces' to 'get real world healthcare knowledge out to the public', I hope 'our' is used in a truly multidisciplinary sense.

Healthcare Library & Knowledge services seem the most logical vehicle for your quest, of enabling the lay person to become an 'informed decision maker'.

But above all, your objective entails a general movement to more joined up thinking and collaborative practice.

To this end, I have included LIS-Medical in on this discussion to at least try and facilitate some coming together of minds.

I think that you are bang on the money that there is an untapped vein of 'expertise and experience that can make a difference'.

The key task is bringing this wealth of resource into a system that is accessible to the wider world.

I use the word 'accessible' in its broadest sense. In one sense it should be freely available, whether through a website, public library network or whatever. But key to all, is that it should be presented in such a way that it's understandable to a lay audience.

Personally, I feel this is where the initial work needs to be achieved, through mutual education between professions with the aim of delivering the objectives that you so passionately advocate.

Just my twopenneth on a sunny Thursday morning

Cheers

"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow - between science and superstition. And it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call The Twilight Zone".

Dr Army,

You've said it all.Having information and keeping it without sharing is like lighting a lamp and the you cover it where even yourself you don't benefit from the light.Health information is the light of health care and it should be shared by all. This will move health care to the next level through information or new evidence from clinical trials and other new innovations.

Subject: Knowledge for all

Dear All,

I think we need to combine our forces and work together to get real world health care knowledge out to the public. I have watched rather disturbing Twitter trends against Http://Alltrials.net  from seemingly “concerned”  individuals. When I check the backgrounds of the “names” it is all about keeping trials and pharma knowledge exclusive.   The them against us dichotomy, sow doubt, divide and conquer, the all lets debate this, well debate is not evidence and it does not lead to knowledge.  People need clean clear knowledge to be informed decision makers. Many here have multiplied years of expertise and experience that can make a difference and you have videos, blogs and teaching that no one ever sees.  Can we help each other?

I posted a ‘guest’ HIFA2015 blog sharing the information from Dr.  Neil  Pakenham on prescribing info being a priority  because we need to get the word out that Healthcare information for all matters. http://www.ithinkwell.org/thinkwell-supports-hifa2015-healthcare-information-for-all-by-2015/   If you would like us to feature one of your blogs or a video, slide presentation or infographic  that shares some great healthcare information please get in touch. We are all in different circles and reach people others will not. One gift we can share is exposure. You can have the best information but if no one knows it is there it is like prize jewels locked in a safety deposit box that no one knows the combination too. Let’s make knowledge count by helping  it multiply! Healthcare knowledge can build it, we can help! It seems to me that registering all trials and reporting all data goes hand in hand clean prescribing and healthcare information for all.

Best regards,

Amy Price
