Dear all,

I thought that this may be of interest to some of you.  We are looking for case studies which address best practice or innovative approaches to digital skills training for students or staff.  So if you have developed, or are developing, something which fits the themes outlined below we’d love to hear from you!  Please submit an expression of interest by 28 June.

Please pass on to other colleagues as appropriate

Many thanks

Julie

UCISA-DSDG User Skills Group:  Case studies - expressions of interest

Within higher education user skills requirements and provision have changed in content and delivery and there will continue to be challenges in ensuring that both staff and students develop the digital skills they require.

The User Skills Group (USG) of the UCISA Digital Skills and Development Group is putting together a set of case studies demonstrating best practice in approaching the challenges of IT and digital skills training in the changing HE landscape and we would like your help.

We are particularly looking for case studies that can demonstrate an impact on staff and/or student digital skills development which could be adopted in other institutions.

We would expect that the case studies will address one or more of the following themes:

-          Use of mobile technologies

-          Use of innovative technologies, e.g. social media

-          Challenges of flexible delivery – blended, online

-          Doing more with less resources

-          Proving value added by training

-          Use of shared or collaborative services

-          Increased student expectations

A prize of £500 will be awarded to the best case study, with two runners-up prizes of £250. Note: prizes are paid to your institution and only UCISA member institutions are eligible to win a prize.

Successful case studies will be published as part of a ‘best practice’ guide and authors will be invited to present their case study at a workshop in February 2014.

Case studies should indicate the resources (including time and staffing) required, the sustainability of the activity and show how any problems or issues encountered were avoided or overcome. You need to demonstrate evidence of the impact on the target audience and identify any future developments.

If you would like to put forward a case study, please submit an expression of interest in the form of an abstract (300-500 words) that contains a brief description of what was done and the impact of this on staff and/or student skills development.

Expressions of interest should be sent to the User Skills Group at [log in to unmask] by Friday 28 June 2013.

We will review the abstracts and select those that we feel would make useful case studies. Those selected will be advised before the end of July 2013 and asked to submit a full case study (either written or using multimedia) by Wednesday 9 October 2013.
