Hi Laura,
There are all sorts of ways to get students
to the site. First of all there's a big button for it available at the
top of every page in Moodle; they can access it directly from the home
page of the intranet either through a big red button from the drop down
menu; I do millions of inductions every year for first years (well, it
feels like millions anyway!) where I mention it; the URL is, along with
my student contactable email address (which happens to be succeed@solent...),
is on the last slide of every presentation for every class I teach, and
it's hammered into them at every turn. We have good buy-in from key teaching
staff because it's linked in people's minds to the learning support work
I do. It's taken a good couple of years to reach this point, but it's pretty
well known now throughout the university, so do keep at it!
best wishes,
Carina

resources
That looks like a great resource
Carina – the question I have is how do you direct students to the site?
We have study skills resources online here, but sometimes the biggest challenge
is to get the support of colleagues across the University to point
students to them.
A question to the group also;
how important do you think subject-specific study skills support is in
regards to content which can be delivered centrally?
Best wishes,
Laura

You're welcome to look at ours! http://mycourse.solent.ac.uk/succeed
is open access and available under a creative commons license (for details
of use I think it's on the FAQ page). It covers everything you mentioned
and is being added to further over the summer.
best wishes,
Carina

Hi all,
UWS is currently updating its resource bank. Instead of (please excuse
cliché use) 'reinventing the wheel', I was wondering if any of you could
recommend Creative Commons sites, which cover topics such as:
Critical thinking/writing/reading
Reflection/reflective writing
Academic writing, specifically lit reviews
Paraphrasing/synthesising
Research skills
Exam Technique
Thanks in advance,
Dickson.
