Could someone please clarify the rules concerning the passing of customer data to “carefully selected” 3rd parties/partner organisations so the customer can receive marketing information on similar products/services?  I’m finding it a little confusing.

If my understanding of the law here is correct, you must get the customer to opt in to receive mailings from 3rd parties, but the “opt-out” option is not permitted?  Our proposed statement is therefore something along the lines of :


We work in partnership with other similar bodies to whom may occasionally pass your details if you provide your consent.  If you would like to receive marketing or promotional material from such organisations please tick here 􀂆


But the following (if I understand correctly) would be NOT be legitimate:
