Movement Summer School

Movement and Presence for Performers

 

Workshop taught by Lucia Walker and Niamh Dowling

Suitable for movement and voice practitioners, actors, singers, dancers and anyone interested in performance

Venue: Rose Bruford College, Sidcup, South London

The workshop will focus on ways access stillness and readiness for action with appropriate energy and engagement. Becoming more conscious of aspects of our experience, including sensation, vision, imagination and mood, and exercising intention and choice, we will explore how to bring more depth and ease to ourselves and our performance. We will also explore our relationship to space and to what supports us and look at our responses to stimuli from inside and from around us.

At the centre of an actor’ s training is a search for a way to respond truthfully in the moment to imagined circumstances. For all performers it is vital to be able to access a sense of poise and readiness allowing a full range of expression and creativity.

 

The underlying principles of the workshop are rooted in the Alexander Technique, which offers a particular approach to performer training. Niamh and Lucia have many years of experience working with actors, dancers, singers and musicians and bring their own particular ways of facilitating change, ease and development of each individual’s capacity.
