Career research opportunities now occupy a pivotal place in the European research landscape, providing access to high-level training opportunities and facilitating the development of long-term research career plans. The College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences at University College Cork, Ireland is eager to work in conjunction with early career and experienced postdoctoral researchers on applications to Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship and Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowship programmes (deadline 14th August 2013).

 

The College offers the possibility of working in an environment with comprehensive coverage of subjects in the humanities and social sciences, and aims to provide a range of supports to individuals seeking to consolidate and extend their profiles as individual researchers.

 

Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship (IEF) and the Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowship (IIF) programmes provide funding to early career and experienced researchers to:

·         develop personal 12 or 24 month career development and training plans that will assist in  achieving a prominent independent position

·         develop advanced research, financial management and organisational skills needed to complete an individual research project

·         promote knowledge transfer and research collaborations between researchers in host and home institutions and contexts.

The College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences is comprised of 11 Schools (Applied Psychology; Applied Social Studies; Asian Studies; Education; English; Geography and Archaeology; History; Irish Learning; Languages, Literatures and Cultures; Music and Theatre; Sociology and Philosophy) and two disciplines (Classics  and Politics). Research in the College is often multidisciplinary in nature and this is reflected in the number of centres and institutes that promote interdisciplinary perspectives and approaches in the College, including ISS21, a research institute in the social sciences.

 

In the most recent Research Quality Review (2009), the activities of all Schools in the College were assessed on the basis of international peer review and the standing of the College as an international research institution was confirmed in a high number of ‘outstanding’ and ‘excellent’ ratings. The College is an integral part of University College Cork (UCC) which is one of the premier research universities in Ireland and is ranked in the top 2% of universities worldwide.
