Workshop: Migrants` position on the housing market: a key to career or marginalization?

Workshop Objectives

 

The intention of this Workshop is to bring together researchers with different perspectives on Housing and its impact on different groups related to migration. A general aim is to highlight current projects going on with focus on research interest in common. The field of interest is within the sector of International Migration, Ethnic Relations and Urban Studies in its broadest sense. All kind of perspectives and disciplines are welcomed as long as it has relevance for Housing and Migration. Questions as segregation, incorporation of new migrants in the housing market, housing conditions for earlier arrived migrant and their descents. It can be physical aspects of housing, relations between real estate owners and their tenants or other organizations but it can also be on gender or age related issues connected with daily life in housing areas. How do women and men experience their position on the housing market and how are these positions related to other parts of the society? Which impact does the residential situation has on people’s wellbeing and how are the young people’s situations in a highly segregated area? Are an insufficient housing situation a deception for success in other parts of the society or are the housing condition itself irrelevant for the feeling of wellbeing and career in different fields? With housing, Migration and Urban Studies in focus new area of research can be explored in cooperation. Both senior researchers as well as PhD students are welcome to present a paper with the objectives in focus.

 

Abstracts

Paper proposals should contain a preliminary title, an abstract of maximum 500 words in English along with the applicants name and contact information’s. The abstract should contain a clearly stated research question, methodology and/or approach and key references. Please submit abstracts to Margareta Popoola ([log in to unmask]). A selection will be made based on the quality and suitability of the abstract.

 

Context and host

The workshop will take place at the 10th IMISCOE Annual Conference, 26-27 August

2013 in Malmö, Sweden, which brings together researchers from the IMISCOE

(International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion in Europe) Research Network and other academic and research institutions in Europe.

 

Important dates

• 31 May 2013: Deadline for submission of abstracts

• 20 June 2013: Applicants will be notified of the outcome of acceptance decisions

• 26 or 27 August 2013: Workshop
