This question was asked a number of years ago but I would be extremely grateful if anybody could provide any up-to-date information. At Powys Archives we are looking to secure new accommodation, and as part of the business case we would like to demonstrate a possible income stream.
Does any archive service have experience of renting out excess archive storage space on a commercial basis which they would be willing to share? Particularly:

* - The total income and the space that is occupied to generate that income
- The rental charge basis, any services that are included in the charge (e.g. records management, document retrieval)
- The length of time that you rent out space i.e. how you balance commercial offer with the need to actually utilise spare space for the service's own requirements as collections grow
 - The long-term viability of such income especially in terms of competing with commercial storage providers.

Any advice or information would be gratefully received.
Thank you
Catherine
