Putting the Magic Back - a conference on resilience and sustainability in museums

4 June 2013   10am-4pm

With support from Arts Council England, this conference will to explore opportunities for resilience and sustainability by putting the magic back into our museums. Thackray Medical Museum has benefitted from Strategic Support Funding to develop a new business model for its work across collections, interpretation, education, events, retail, marketing and sponsorship. We will use this project as a starting point for exploring how other museums can develop their own resilience and sustainability.

 

Sessions include:

·         Resilience and Sustainability in Museums - Gillian Greaves, Arts Council England

·         Putting the Magic Back: A New Vision for Thackray Medical Museum - Joanne Bartholomew, Director of Collections & Interpretation Thackray Medical Museum

·         Health, Museums & Magic: Breathe Magic Therapy - Yvonne Farquharson, Director, Breathe Arts Health Research

·         Interpreting Medicine through Magic (Including explanatory tour of exhibition) - Anna Farthing, Project Manager

·         Selling Medicine as Magic - Hannah Schumann, Director of Business & Enterprise Thackray Medical Museum

·         Heritage Hogwarts: Magical Learning - Liz Egan, Charlotte Bridle & Trizia Wells, Thackray Medical Museum

·         Creating a Magical Museum Retail Experience - Sarah McDonald, Visitor Services Manager, Thackray Medical Museum / Graham Bancroft, Heritage Retail

·         Opportunities to achieve sustainability & resilience - Gillian Greaves, Arts Council England, Michael Turnpenny, Museum Development Yorkshire, Katie McGuire, Associate Director, CO2Sense, Jane Avison, Heritage Learning

·         Collections & Interpretation Panel Discussion - Bring your curatorial challenge along for some creative brainstorming

·         Business Development & Enterprise - Bring your commercial crisis for some business development inspiration

 

Thanks to Arts Council England, we are able to offer a delegate fee of £25 per person including inspiring talks and practical workshops as well as opportunity to network over lunch and refreshments.
