Second International Conference on
Emerging Research Paradigms in Business and Social Sciences

Middlesex University Dubai

Tuesday 26th - Thursday 28th November 2013

Venue: The Address Hotel, Dubai Mall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Following on from the enormous success of the inaugural International Conference on Emerging Research Paradigms in Business and Social Sciences in 2011, Middlesex University Dubai is delighted to announce that it will hold its Second International Conference on Emerging Research Paradigms in Business and Social Sciences (ERPBSS) from Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th November 2013 in the Address Hotel, Dubai Mall, UAE.

The objective of the conference is to provide an opportunity for academics to discuss new concepts, progressive methodologies, embryonic approaches and innovative practices within the world of business and the wider social environment. Given that social enquiry is still a maturing field of educational study within this region, it is crucial that business systems, processes and structures are considered in conjunction with contributions from such contemporary fields of social enquiry as media studies, psychology, sociology and tourism education. This is indeed pertinent for understanding service sector economies and societies, as well as comprehending the future role of education as a strategy and contributor to a sustainable learning culture and environment. Finally, the 2013 conference will include two additional tracks (Economics and Global Social Science), extend existing tracks, and introduce more emergent themes.

The conference will focus on the following tracks:

Tourism and Hospitality
Global Social Science
Business and Management
Contemporary Psychology
Economics
Education, Training and Development
Information and Communications Technology
Media, Journalism and Communication
Tourism and Hospitality Track

The tourism and hospitality track aims to provide a forum for international educators, scholars, researchers, industry professionals, policy-makers and graduate students to evaluate emerging paradigms and discuss pioneering practices within the broader tourism and hospitality field. We are seeking conceptual and/or empirical-based papers that seek to address the changing nature of the tourism and hospitality industries. This track will thus attempt to foster progressive approaches within tourism and hospitality studies, rather than to simply reproduce well-rehearsed empirical models and conceptual applications. The overall aim of this track is to present a new agenda for future research and theoretical exposition. Although we are open to any submission that is aligned to the goals of the conference and this track, we do encourage submissions relating to the following themes:

· Tourism, citizenship and mobility: the rights and responsibilities of tourists
· Social marketing in the hotel industry
· Health tourism, well-being and social tourism
· Islamic hospitality and halal tourism
· Festival and event industries: emerging trends
· Hospitality environment: new concepts, developments and innovations
· Psychological approaches to tourism behavior
· Consumer behaviour and hybrid experiences in the tourism and hospitality industries
· Advancements in information technology in the tourism and hospitality industries
· Tourism and the cultural industries: contributions from the social sciences
· Sport and activity tourism: impacts, challenges, and future developments
· Tourism and hospitality promotion, product formulation and marketing initiatives
· Working in the tourism and hospitality industries: social and cultural issues
· Sustainable practices and HR issues in sustainable tourism
· Emerging issues in tourism and hospitality education and training

Global Social Science Track

This track aims to examine current global issues and trends, critical theoretical applications, and innovative methodologies within the social sciences. We are seeking papers that engage theoretically with the subject area and/or signify pioneering applications and developments, particularly in the field of sociology, social geography and anthropology. This track will thus attempt to question existing paradigms and epistemological applications. Although we are open to any submission that is aligned with the goals of the conference and this track, we encourage submissions relating to the following topics and themes:

Climate change, human-environmental interaction and peak oil
Globalisation and glocalisation
Contemporary citizenship: nationalism, cosmopolitanism, and transnationalism.
Social scientific perspectives of the global economic crisis
Anthropology/sociology of business management and organisations
International development issues: poverty alleviation, health and humanitarian response
Post-conflict perspectives
