London Renters calling for a day of action on April 27th
Letting agents make money from people moving, rather than remaining secure in their homes and putting down roots in a community. According to the English Housing Survey, over a third (35%) of private renters have been in their home for less than a year, compared to 3% of home owners and 8% of social renters. Under the motto “Let Down”, a coalition of private tenants groups from across the city
is campaigning against high rents, extortionate letting agent fees, poor housing condition and discrimination on the rental market. On the day of action, Saturday 27th of April, “London Renters” is organizing several creative protest actions across the city. The overall theme is “Monopoly” and letting agencies. The actions aims to show how Landlords and letting agents profite from the insecurity of renters. People who want to get involved in the tenants day of action visit www.letdownblog.wordpress.com

Sergio Lopez from Big Bang Lab composer and video producer has been involved with London Renters by setting up a Facebook page and running participatory media workshops having experienced lots of issues as private tenant hismelf. He will be leading a music workshop on the 27th of April at the action day, composing a piece of music using lyrics previously crowdsourced from private tenants across London.

Everyone is welcome! Using a very colourful piano at Herne Hill station (see picture), he will be creating the song on the day with other musicians and participants. He needs strong local voices, amazing sharp tongues and a pianist to join forces for a complaint choir on the 27th. Have fun singing the first ever private tenants complaint song! If you are interested in singing at the music workshop on Saturday 20th (venue tbc) and at the action day in Herne Hill on the 27th! contact Sergio on [log in to unmask] You can also contribute via twitter @LondonRenters #LetDownLyrics

London Renters Open Call via Twitter Ripped off or treated badly by a lettings agent? We want to select the best stories to make up the lyrics to use them for a complaint choir protest in Herne Hill on the 27th April. Be creative to fit your entry in a tweet #LetDownLyrics
