CALL FOR PAPERS
Economic and Business History Young Scholars Workshop Early-modern and Modern Periods

European University Institute Florence, 4 – 5 June 2013 Seminar Room 2, Villa San Paolo

The Economic History Working Group of the European University Institute (EUI) will held a two-day workshop on June 4th and 5th 2013, opened to young scholars from all fields of economic and business history. In a comely atmosphere, and under the patronage of senior scholars, this workshop aims at fostering intellectual exchanges between the EUI and other European academic communities.

To keep the meeting as open as possible there will be no specific thematic focus. Accepted papers will receive 45 minutes each: 25 / 30 for presentation and 15 / 20 for discussion. Please note that the presentation time may vary according to the number of participants.

Although the submission of a paper is not compulsory, participants are encouraged to provide:

(1) self-consistent papers (e.g. articles, chapters of their dissertation etc.)
(2) Papers offering a general presentation of their doctoral research
(3) Papers reflecting upon methodological facets of their work (e.g. on sources, on database building and exploitation, network analysis etc.)

The workshop will be open to young scholars, i.e. PhD candidates or scholars who have defended their dissertation in the past three years, notwithstanding their current academic position. It will be held in English. Contributions are expected to concern the early-modern or the modern period – both understood in a broad sense. Interdisciplinary approaches are warmly welcomed, and applications from Italian universities strongly encouraged. If you have any question please contact Rémi Gilardin ([log in to unmask]).

Proposals written in English, of no more than 500 words and accompanied by a one-page CV should be sent to Rémi Gilardin ([log in to unmask]) before April 30th 2013. Notification of acceptance will be given by May 10th 2013. The organizers will provide lunch vouchers and coffee breaks, but travel and accommodation expenses must be covered by the participants themselves.
