Thanks for the info, Duncan. I think the cumulative report we've got fails to show previous certification yet still shows us previous unit attempts which would have had to be used for certification in order for the candidates to access the qualification again at this centre. It's slightly confusing when only part of the picture is shown to us. Thanks for your help.

We do not do that specification. However, the rules in the specification are:
Unit results remain available to count towards certification within the shelf life of the specification, whether or not they have already been used.
Candidates can only re-sit a unit once before they certificate. The better result for each unit will count towards the final qualification. However, the terminal rule for GCSE means that 40% of the assessment must be taken in the examination series in which the qualification is awarded. In this specification, candidates must take either Unit 3 or both Unit 1 and Unit 2 in the series in which the qualification is awarded, and the results from 40% terminal assessment must contribute to the candidate's final grade even if a candidate has a better result from a previous series.
Candidates can re-sit the qualification as many times as they wish.
Candidates' grades are based on the work they submit for assessment.
So this appears to be being interpreted as they can pull forward a unit from pre-certification provided they meet the 40% rule in the current series. Is this what is happening with your students?

Of course it all changes again for courses starting in 2014 .....

Duncan

Thanks Duncan, that's clear, however my issue is that there are lots of candidates who haven't aggregated according to the cumulative record but seem to have been accessing units more than twice. Have you had this also?

In theory a student can only attempt a unit twice. In practice they get around this by certificating and taking all of the units again, in which case they can have multiple attempts but not receive the best results of units taken first time around which are lost. This also works if they are entered under a different UCI between schools.

Hi all
I'm really no good at getting this and need your help as always. Please can you remind me how the above apply to GCSE Maths (we use AQA 4362 but that's not so important).
Looking at the cumulative report from e-AQA since this March results series, there are lots of learners who appear to have attempted units and received unit results for more than the allowed two attempts (school attempts that don't appear to have been aggregated). Is this right? If so, how do we know which attempts will count towards aggregation?
Thanks in advance
elaine
