I agree with Neil and Betty – with one minor correction; it applies, up to the end of compulsory education as stated by Betty. However, from this year that is the 17th Birthday and from next year it will be to the 18th birthday (for those turning 16 after this educational year). This is due to the changes in the age under which compulsory education is provided. My son is 16 and leaving school this year but he has to attend compulsory education till he is 17. His friend next door who is a year younger (and all other children under 16) will have to attend until they are 18.

Now, how this will translate into requests for information I do not know because compulsory education at that age also includes apprenticeships with an element of learning. What will be the education record in that instance? Time attended at work or just the college part? I am sure this will be tested eventually.
