Access to Food – Excess of Food

Dear Colleagues,

 

We are delighted to announce the first Foodscapes conference organized by the Department of Geography and Spatial Research, University of Graz, with the support of the two “LEADER regions” Vulkanland and Almenland (Styria). The conference will take place from the 22nd to the 25th of September, 2013 in the Castle of Seggau, in Southern Styria, 40 km from Graz.

 

Confirmed Keynote speakers include: Julie Guthman and Melissa Caldwell (University of California, Santa Cruz); Mara Miele (Cardiff University); David Evans, (Manchester University); and Mike Goodman (King’s College, London).

 

Foodscapes focuses on “Access to Food – Excess of Food”, a theme that brings special attention to the contradictions inherent in contemporary practices of modern industrialized food production, circulation, and consumption.

 

We therefore invite you to send us papers and/or panel proposals on, but not limited to, the following broad topics:

 

·               Conventional/alternative food networks

·               Everyday practices of food provisioning, consumption and circulation

·               Food quality and quantity

·               Food waste

·               Food in education and the media

·               Food safety, policy and ethics

·               Regional development through production and marketing of food

·               Changing food regimes/geographies

·               Food, space and time

Three-day conference attendance (22nd-25th, September)

Early-bird registration (before 10 June): € 160

Late registration (after 10 June): € 200


2-day conference attendance

Early-bird registration (before 10 June): € 120

Late registration (after 10 June): € 150

 

1-day conference attendance

Early-bird registration (before 10 June): € 60

Late registration (after 10 June): € 75

 

Note that the conference fee includes organization costs and food (coffee breaks, lunch and dinner).

 

Conference Registration

 

All conference delegates should register and pay the registration fee in full before September 1st, 2013.

Conference participation grants

We are able to offer some financial support for conference delegates. The grant is meant to support the participation of junior researchers and will cover part of the costs for travelling/accommodation/fee. Information on how to apply will be soon circulated and published on the conference website.
