Dear Jacqui,  in the publication on the link below we documented processes for evaluating the quality of participation in research - see esp pages 49-54, and we designed a  quality of participation matrix ( page 52)  Should be transferable to participation in other contexts.  Hope useful.

Subject: [COMMUNITYPSYCHUK] Arnstein's ladder needs updating! Anyone done it??

Just wanted to ask if anyone has any up to date critques of Arnstein's Ladder of Participation, I've got Maritza Montero's concentric circles of participation and commitment (though I don't think that you can infer once from the other!!) and the one used in relation to learning of children and young people by Unicef but sort of hoped someone within critical community or lib pysch might have engaged with this in relation to participation and reworked it to bring it up to date??
As ever I live in hope!
Nice to see some sunshine here for a change, roll on summer!
Hope all are ok

I don't have the email for the European Comm Psych list so if anyone is feeling kind perhaps they'll pass my question on for me please or supply me with the email address, thanks to anyone who does, jacx
