A PhD fellowship is available in the laboratory of Dr. A. Dessen at the Institut de Biologie Structurale in Grenoble, France, on structural biology of proteins involved in the architecture of secretion systems of pathogenic bacteria. The goal of this project is to crystallize, collect synchrotron data, and solve the three-dimensional structures of bacterial outer membrane proteins, an objective for which we already have a number of promising preliminary results. Candidates should be familiar with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques and have an interest in learning X-ray crystallography.
