Hi Amanda, 
This is an interesting question. I wonder if the partly gelatinized starch grains have a slightly different specific gravity to less damaged starch, meaning they remain in the pellet. Can you find out what s.g. they float at? It may mean that certain samples should be prepped  twice at two different s.g. to obtain all starch.
