Department of Public Health and Primary Care (DPHPC), University of Cambridge, UK

*Limit of tenure applies

The Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) conducts world-leading interdisciplinary research into the prediction and prevention of cardiovascular disease, with a portfolio of studies that comprises >2.5 million participants. Professor John Danesh is the Unit's overall Director and Professor Simon Thompson is the Unit's Director of Research in Biostatistics.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented senior biostatistician to contribute to the development of statistical methods for risk prediction models using longitudinal measures of risk factors in clustered data, with particular application to cardiovascular disease. This will constitute methodological research, empirical research and applied research to the primary care database, The Health Improvement Network (THIN) and the 2.3 million-person Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration (ERFC).

Based at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, University of Cambridge, the post-holder will work directly with Dr Angela Wood in collaboration with Professor Simon Thompson (University of Cambridge), Professor John Danesh (University of Cambridge), Dr Ian White (MRC Biostatistics Unit), Dr Irene Petersen (University College London), Professor Robin Henderson (Newcastle University) and Professor Irwin Nazareth (University College London).

We invite applications from candidates with (i) either a PhD in statistics (or related field), or an MSc in statistics (or related field) and relevant work experience; (ii) experience in statistical packages such as STATA or R; (iii) good interpersonal skills to develop working relationships inside and outside the multi-disciplinary group; (iv) a strong interest in the development and application of statistical methods to health research and epidemiology. A knowledge of joint models for the analysis of longitudinal and survival data is desirable. The post-holder should also be able to work independently, accurately judge priorities, and have excellent organisational and communication skills.
