Re: [OCC-HEALTH] JISC and policy

Hi Anne

No problem. Talking about research findings I am going over to Finland at the weekend to spend the week with European OH researchers and  practitioners involved with aging and work ability. Work ability is the focus of my research so I’m hoping to learn lots of new information which I can pass on to this list and others. As part of my research I have been looking at different OH systems in Europe and find that there are National OH profiles of Finland and Germany recently published. I have been in touch with WHO, they tell me that the UK and France will publish theirs in due course.

For students or anyone interested in different OH systems I attach what I have – it’s very interesting to read how the macrostructures eg, political, economic, influence the OH system in place.

For those of you who completed my survey last year, comparing Finnish and UK OH practice, I have written the findings up and the paper is currently being peer reviewed by an academic journal. I will disseminate once it is accepted (fingers x).

I have been a member of JISC for 9 years and value everyone’s contribution – it’s a great learning resource.

Many thanks

Karen

Thanks for your support, Karen. I am glad you have noticed a significant improvement in the quality of the posts in recent years. That mirrors other feedback Kevin and I have received. I have taken an active  part in its evolution into a very useful resource for  specialist practitioners and to those studying at Dipl/BSc/MSc. There are others, such as yourself  undertaking a PhD who so freely share their resources, knowledge and research findings.

It may be timely to point out that Diane has recently had an article accepted for publication regarding the use of JISC as a professional and learning resource. She asked myself and a few other regular contributors to act as critical readers before submission. I know it will be helpful and once published I will integrate it into pre-course reading for students enrolling on the programmes I lead so thank you Diane.

Well said, I think the quality of the posts have significantly improved over the last few years so reminders like this are probably necessary to us all.
Hope all is well

Dear List

Perhaps it is  timely to include a reminder regarding the purpose of the JISC-OH list.

Kevin and I have striven to ensure that JISC is a resource which supports practice and it has also beome a repository for evidence based materials. some of you may recall that we both had to take a hard stand a few years ago to move it forward so that we could confidently say that it is a resource which supports practitioners and  academics alike. Feedback from practitioners indicates that this stance has improved the quality of the postings.

Kevin and I spend a considerable amount of our personal time moderating and supporting this resource. Some of you will be aware that at one point we were BOTH considering leaving the list due to the amount of work involved - had we done that the list would have folded. We are grateful of the contributions of subscribers. Please continue to share policy documents, good practice and evidence based materials. We all learn and benefit from this material - including myself. I frequently include materials from JISC within  teaching and learning activities.

Dear List,

Please listen to Anne's request about posting. As co-owners, Anne and I are responsible for the existence of the list and, if the list becomes at-all commercial, it becomes threatened. As we’ve said before, anything that could be construed as commercial will count against the continued existence of the list. Please think carefully as responses on the list to such also carry the original email. Please respond off-list.

Kind regards

Kevin
