medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Dear Andrew

This should be fairly easy if you have access to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. It includes (short) biographies of every medieval English bishop including brief details of their education. It is searchable online but, in case you only have a hard copy, check all the bishops in the Handbook of British Chronology.

There is also a two volume book entitled The English Episcopate in the Reign of Edward III by Fr Donald Blackley. It seems to be available on www.archive.org and also through Amazon (perhaps a POD as discussed on this list recently?). It rings vague bells but I cannot remember if I have ever read it or not! And I cannot find it in the BL catalogue which concerns me a little.

Best wishes,
Rosemary Hayes
