This post will assist with research on a three-year Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)-funded project entitled ‘Orientations in the Development of Pan-Arab Television for Children’ (Principle Investigator Naomi Sakr) This project investigates changes in the creation, commercialisation and reception of pan-Arab television content for children in recent years using a three-pronged approach, that studies institutions, texts and audiences simultaneously. Audience research (the main focus of the postdoctoral researcher) will take place in households and among schoolchildren, in order to explore how they negotiate television output in developing self-identity and perceptions of otherness.

The successful applicant will be able to speak, read and write fluent Arabic and English; have research experience in some area of media, communication, education, children’s studies or sociology and experience of  undertaking textual and/or audience research and a completed PhD in a relevant field.

The successful applicant will be expected to travel abroad as required under the project research plan. Unsociable hours may be required from time to time.
