ASSISTANT PROFESSOR NEW MEDIA & DIGITAL CULTURE (1,0 fte)

Excellent research assessments and growing student numbers enable the department of Journalism of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, to hire an assistant professor with expertise in the field of New Media and Digital Culture. The position is open to candidates with a wide range of research interests and theoretical and methodological expertise. The preferred candidate is able to teach courses in media and journalism studies on the undergraduate and MA level and is interested in working at the crossroads of new and social media, journalism and digital culture.

The department of Journalism offers an undergraduate program in Media and Journalism Studies as well as a Dutch and international MA program in Journalism. The MA programs focus on cross-mediality and convergence, and combine academic reflection with academic skills. They admit 45 Dutch and 15 international students on a yearly basis after a rigorous selection procedure. The undergraduate program provides courses such as Journalism and New Media, Introduction Journalism Studies, Television Studies and Media History to about 400 bachelor students. Research is carried out in the interdisciplinary Groningen Centre for Media and Journalism Studies. It focuses on the study of Social Media and Digital Culture, Transforming Media Use and Media and Journalism as Cultural Form.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The University of Groningen offers a salary from ¤ 3,227 gross per month up to a maximum of ¤ 5,020 (scale 11/12) gross per month for a full-time position, dependent on qualifications and work experience. The successful candidate will first be offered a temporary position of one year. In case of a positive evaluation, the position may be extended afterwards.
