 research assessments and growing student 
numbers enable the department of Journalism of the University of 
Groningen, The Netherlands, to hire an assistant professor with 
expertise in the 
field of New Media and Digital Culture. The position is open to 
candidates with a wide range of research interests and theoretical and 
methodological expertise. The preferred candidate is able to teach 
courses in media and journalism studies on the undergraduate and MA 
level and is interested in working at the crossroads of new and social 
media, journalism and digital culture.<br />

The successful applicant is expected to:<br />

 teaching and supervisory tasks in the department's International and 
Dutch MA programs in Journalism as well as in its undergraduate program 
in Media and Journalism Studies. International candidates will teach 
solely in English. Dutch candidates will teach in both English and Dutch</li><li>participate actively in curriculum development, course design and administration of the Journalism Department</li><li>carry out and generate top research in media studies or journalism 
studies, with a focus on new and social media, and digital culture</li><li>pursue research grants and other forms of external funding</li><li>participate actively in international research networks and build international collaboration</li><li>participate actively in the activities of the interdisciplinary research Centre for Media and Journalism Studies.</li></ul></div><br />QUALIFICATIONS<br /><br />Applicants should have:<br />

digital culture, preferably with a proven interest in journalism studies
 (including participatory and alternative forms of journalism)</li><li>teaching experience at university level and didactic abilities</li><li>an excellent research track record, including relevant publications</li><li>an outstanding national and international academic network as well as strong contacts with professionals in the field</li><li>willingness to make substantial contributions to the development of 
the Media and Journalism Studies' research and educational streams</li><li>organisational experience and skills</li><li>excellent command of English (oral and written), and preferably of Dutch.</li></ul></div>



<div class="text"><br />ORGANISATION<br /><br />Since its foundation in 1614, the University of
 Groningen has established an international reputation as a dynamic and 
innovative university offering high-quality teaching and research. Its

universities and networks worldwide.<br /><br />The department of Journalism
 offers an undergraduate program in Media and Journalism Studies as well
 as a Dutch and international MA program in Journalism. The MA programs 
focus on cross-mediality and convergence, and combine academic 
reflection with academic skills. They admit 45 Dutch and 15 
international students on a yearly basis after a rigorous selection 
procedure. The undergraduate program provides courses such as Journalism
 and New Media, Introduction Journalism Studies, Television Studies and 
Media History to about 400 bachelor students. Research is carried out in
 the interdisciplinary Groningen Centre for Media and Journalism 
Studies. It focuses on the study of Social Media and Digital Culture, 
Transforming Media Use and Media and Journalism as Cultural Form.</div><br />CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT<br /><br />The University of Groningen offers a salary 
from ¤ 3,227 gross per month up to a maximum of ¤ 5,020 (scale 11/12) 
gross per month for a full-time position, dependent on qualifications 
and work experience. The successful candidate will first be offered a 
temporary position of one year. In case of a positive evaluation, the 
position may be extended afterwards.<br /><div class="text">
