Hi everyone,

Let me give a little more detail on the upgrade work we are actually doing
next week.

Every month the traffic to the Aspire service grows at quite a rate, and
now we need to make some upgrades to our network infrastructure to make
sure we have adequate capacity going forward.

Being related to the upgrade of the network infrastructure, it's not
possible to maintain access to the service whist the actual upgrade is
performed, even with reduced functionality (i.e. read-only mode). This is
because these upgrades are not really related to the application, they are
related to how users reach the application.

Naturally, these upgrades are pre-rehearsed to minimise any risk, and any
actual downtime should be limited to a few minutes during the window - the
old infrastructure remains in place due to any problems, and the downtime
is only whilst we bring online the new services.

However, we do prefer to schedule a larger window at the end of the working
day in case things do not go as expected - this gives us room to address
any issues before your staff and students come online for the next working
day.
