Applications are invited for two AHRC-funded PhD studentships as part of the ‘European Travellers to Wales: 1750-2010’ research project. The areas are as follows:

- ‘Literary Conceptions of Wales’ will explore the depiction, reception and poetic understanding of Wales in European literature. This is based in the School of Modern Languages, Bangor University:

- ‘Wales through European Eyes’ will investigate the evolving portrayal of Wales and ‘Welshness’ offered by travel guidebooks written in European languages, and spans the fields of travel literature, cultural studies, transnational studies, European studies and Celtic studies. This is based in the College of Arts and Humanities, Swansea University:

These three-year studentships are available to candidates able to commence their studies between 1 June 2013 and 1 October 2013. The closing date for applications is Monday 29 April 2013.
