Hi Alex,

The Akta Pure is the latest version in the AKTA series and has more features, has a modular design that can be easily re-configured for use, and comes with the new Unicorn 6 software. You can collect in a plate format, run at very low flow rates, collect smaller volumes, add two UV detectors etc.

A detailed comparison of the three systems is here:

Ultimately it depends on who is using the system, how much flexibility you want, and the cost. The main advantage of the Pure is that you are not stuck with the same configuration and the system can be adapted very easily in the future depending on your needs due to the new modular design. I hear the new "drag and drop" software is also a nice feature.

Subject: [ccp4bb] fplc system

Dear crystallography enthusiasts:

We are shopping for a new fplc system. While have pretty much decided to buy a GE Healthcare ("Akta") rather than a Biorad system, we are interested in finding out your opinions about the new models that are currently on the market, such as the Akta Avant and the Akta Pure, and how they compare to the Purifier.

Any comments would be much appreciated!

Bests,
Alex
